You have to love word-of-mouth advertising. One of our existing artist clients recommended another artist who was in need of an online eCommerce website revamp for her fine art prints shop. As genuine lovers and collectors of art ourselves, we immediately jumped at the chance to get involved.
Opportunities like this are always exciting, not only because of the creative potential, but also because they come with a level of trust already established through recommendation.
On initially reviewing the old website, it quickly became clear that it was a very basic HTML build. While it had served its purpose at one point, it lacked the functionality and flexibility required for a modern online store. There was no clear structure for scaling, no streamlined user journey, and importantly, no SEO in place. This meant the site had little to no visibility on search engines, making it difficult for potential customers to discover the artwork organically. It was evident that a full revamp would be needed to bring the site up to current standards and give the artist the platform she deserved.
Website Revamp Begins
To start the ball rolling, we arranged a face-to-face client meeting. We’ve always found this to be the best way to build a strong and effective working relationship. Getting to know a client on a personal level allows us to better understand their vision, their goals, and the story behind their work. This insight is invaluable when it comes to delivering results that truly align with what they have in mind.
From the moment we met Christine, there was an instant connection. We were not only impressed by her professionalism but completely in awe of her artwork. Her passion and creativity were evident, and it made the project all the more exciting. Together, we began mapping out a clear plan for the new website—one that would showcase her art in the best possible way while also functioning as a seamless online store.
A key early step was requesting high-quality images of all her prints. In the world of eCommerce, especially when it comes to art, visuals are everything. Crisp, detailed images help to convey the texture, colour, and emotion of each piece, encouraging customers to make a purchase with confidence. Once we had the assets, we began organising and building out the product catalogue, including setting up multiple variations where needed. As it turned out, there were quite a lot of variations to manage, but ensuring everything was accurate and easy to navigate was a priority.
With the backend fully prepared, it was time to focus on the front-facing elements of the site. The design approach was intentionally clean and simple. Rather than overwhelming visitors with unnecessary elements, we wanted the artwork to take centre stage. By using a minimal layout, balanced spacing, and subtle design features, the site allows each piece to speak for itself, creating a more immersive and enjoyable browsing experience.
The Next Steps
As we continued working closely with Christine, it became clear that there were additional opportunities to strengthen her online presence. There was no SEO strategy in place, no Google Business profile, and no form of performance tracking. Drawing on our years of experience, we quickly implemented these essential tools.
We set up and verified her Google Business profile, ensuring her brand could be easily found in local searches. At the same time, we introduced SEO best practices across the website, optimising product descriptions, metadata, and site structure to improve visibility. Tracking tools were also integrated, allowing for valuable insights into visitor behaviour and site performance moving forward.
With these foundations in place, Christine now has not only a beautifully designed website but also a powerful platform to grow her audience and expand her business online.
